Zambian Experiences

In 2017 a team of youth from Calgary spent three weeks in the Copperbelt Region of Zambia, learning about the Zambian culture and visiting with the folks of the United Church of Zambia Theological University. They learned about health care, social justice and made lasting friendships. One of the wonderful organizations they visited was Kwama Home Based Care, a church-based health care initiative for folks living with HIV/AIDS.

In the fall of 2017, a participant from the 2008 Zambia Youth Trip went to Zambia to volunteer for CUSO International as a Nutritional Advisor on the Southern African Nutrition Initiative. Her fiance Robert Massey, our Communications Director, went to visit over the holidays and took some amazing photos. We decided to make use of his lovely photos and combine them with stories from the adventures we have all had in Zambia and raise some money for Kwama Home Based Care as well as our local Campus Ministry, which serves the U of C, Mount Royal University and SAIT. We hope that you can join us for a fun and informative evening that will showcase a gallery of photos of Zambia that will be available for purchase, music by local university music students, and storytelling from the travelers.

Ticket cost includes: entry, a drink, appetizers and 1 door prize ticket. Purchase of photos is available by cash, cheque or credit card. Proceeds from the evening will be split evenly between the Campus Ministry and Kwama Home Based Care.

Art Gallery

Featuring photos of African animals (lions, elephants, hippos, zebras, and more), Zambian sunsets, and Victoria falls; this art gallery is sure to have a piece of art for everyone. Each photograph will be for sale that night, and personally signed by the photographer. Each will have a certificate of authenticities. Other sizes of each photograph will be made available, as will art cards and other options during the evening.

Cash and cheque will be available as will credit card processing through Square.

Stories, Music, & Drinks

Young adults who were part of the 2017 Zambian trip will be on hand to talk about their experience in the country. They will share their stories, how the trip impacted them, and why they feel the need to keep giving back. These stories will make you laugh, some will make you cry, but they will all make you realize the impact that Zambia has had on these young adults.

The price of one ticket will get you a door prize ticket, a drink ticket, appies, and a great evening of beautiful classical music filled with amazing art and stories.
