School is exhausting and lonely, work is blah and meh, and city life is busy and loud.

Come sneak away to Loon Lake with us for a long weekend of rest, community, and transformation. We'll be learning stories of the boss women of the Bible, diving into who we are and becoming with Enneagram workshops, and worshipping our God led by Ukulele Church (which is exactly what it sounds like).

Also good food, late night board games, and campfires--it's a weekend you'll want to show up for.

$300 per young adult. Bursaries are available.

SFU Annual Non-Violence Day

SFU Annual Non-Violence Day

Non-Violence Day started as a conversation among the faith groups. We wanted an opportunity to come together and share our faith’s traditions and ideas relating to violence.

This conversation grew out of the events that happened to an SFU Chaplain. In November of 2008, Chaplain Gary was moving homes and found a package left on his doorstep. Believing it to be a going away present he picked it up. The package was in fact a bomb and detonated. Due to this event, the conversation grew into a plan to hold a Non-Violence Day as a way to come together and express that we are not for violence. It became a way to bring awareness to injustice and violence that occurs, and to stand against it.

Non Violence Day was created to bring together the faith groups of the centre to share their perspective on current and various social issues related to forms non-violence in hopes to encourage dialogue and hope to create a better, more aware, and understanding future.

Blanket Exercise

Come in and join the fun by engaging with community through this time of thought and contemplation.

The Blanket Exercise is based on using Indigenous methodologies and the goal is to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy.

Wondering what your next step ought to be?

A lot of people (maybe most) go through seasons where what’s next is awfully unclear.

As Christians, we know that’s perfectly natural, but we also believe that God has a particular call for each life—that each of us has something to offer this world that only we can give. Sometimes that gets worked out in our jobs, and sometimes in other ways.

The good news is that we don’t have to figure it out on our own. We can do that discerning work in a community. And we have resources to help us do it well.

Join UBC Campus Minister, Rev. Aaron Miller, as we work our way together through this discussion!

May these ashes be to us a sign of our mortality and penitence, and a reminder of your grace.

This evening we mark the beginning of the Lenten season by telling the story of God, entering into our mortality, and stepping into communal repentance.
